Arrow River ... that path going up the hill is actually an old road that went between Arrowtown and a gold mining town a few miles upstream ... the road crossed the river multiple times, and our 4WD likewise forded multiple times ... the old abandoned gold mining town that's upstream had recently had one of the two remaining old wooden historic buildings burned down by an idiotic British tourist, who had seen the town on the map, decided to walk all the way to the town from Arrowtown to "catch a bus," only to discover that it was a ghost town, and thus had no bus terminals (and no actual roads leading to or from it) ... since it was getting to be evening when he got there and it was a bit chilly, the British guy, in all his limey wisdom, decided that he'd burn down one of the buildings in order to keep warm ... our tour guide said everyone in the Queenstown/Arrowtown area wanted the guy strung up in the middle of the town square
